St James’s Motoring Spectacle celebrates the past, present, and future of motoring

The Master hosted our presence at The St James’s Motoring Spectacle on 2nd November, an inaugural free family-friendly concours in Pall Mall, hosted by The Royal Automobile Club the day before the London to Brighton Vintage Car Run.

The St James’s Concours saw Pall Mall closed to the traffic for the day, and divided into five zones; modern design, heritage display, educational display, veteran car concourse, and RM Sotheby’s blue-riband auction.

There was significant focus on educational and charity activities, especially sustainable technologies and the future of motoring, with interactive exhibits and career guidance for those interested in the automotive sector. The Coachmakers had a stand to explain our history, and the scholarships, apprenticeships and bursaries we provide to support young people who want to work in our industries.

The heritage display included a timeline from horse-drawn carriages to electric vehicles, celebrating milestones such as 125 years of Renault and Fiat, and 50 years of the Volkswagen Golf, as well as 70 pre-1905 veteran cars that were due to set off on the London to Brighton run the following day.

It was also a rare opportunity to see some of the world’s most spectacular supercars. We met many fellow petrolheads, including HRH Prince Michael of Kent, Lady Bamford, Chairman of the RAC Liveryman Duncan Wiltshire, and The Lord Mayor of Westminster.

This splendid showcase is certain to become an annual event, which the Coachmakers is keen to support.
