Remembrance Sunday Service 2024

Another major event, initiated and organised by the Fruiterers’ Company, is the annual Remembrance Sunday Service, Wreath Laying and March Past for Livery Companies and City dignitaries.

The Master Coachmaker, his Clerk and their consorts joined many other company leaders at St Paul’s Cathedral for a Service of Remembrance on Sunday morning 10th November. The Lord Mayor, Sheriffs and other dignitaries were in attendance. Following the conclusion of the Service, the congregation progressed down Cheapside, with Masters, Clerks and other members in their colourful gowns.

The Wreath Laying ceremony takes place at the war memorial on the forecourt of the Royal Exchange. A Guards’ Band assembles on the steps of the Exchange, flanked by Aldermen and Common Councilmen in morning coats and top hats. The Lord Mayor lays the first wreath followed by military leaders and other dignitaries on behalf of their members. A wreath is laid by the Master Fruiterers on behalf of the Livery Companies.

This whole event allows the City and Livery to remember the fallen in much the same way as the simultaneous Cenotaph ceremony at Westminster is for the nation, the Government and the Commonwealth.

Among many military attendees, members of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry Corps (pictured above) laid a wreath at the memorial followed by a swift march past Mansion House.
