The Coachmakers welcomes new members


The Coachmakers recently welcomed a number of new Freemen and Liverymen to its ranks, at the Automotive Industry Dinner.

Freeman David Louzado

David and his wife Sharon live in Baldock in Hertfordshire. David studied electronics and instrumentation prior to having a distinguished career in aviation. He currently holds a European Aviation Safety Agency Aircraft Maintenance Licence issued by the UK CAA. David has held senior positions in various aviation organisations, including the Tui Group, Thomson Airways, Britannia Airways and easyJet as well as positions in aircraft leasing organisations and now focuses primarily in Aviation Finance as Head of Technical – Aviation Finance at Investec Bank Plc.

David was involved in the refinancing of a fleet of finance leased aircraft during the pandemic. He also arranged the sale of three Boeing 777 aircraft under the challenging market conditions of 2021. David is a member of the International Society of Transport Aircraft Traders – ISTAT. David volunteers to mentor teenagers from less privileged backgrounds who are seeking support regarding work or further education options. He would like to share his considerable breadth of knowledge with those who want to enter the industry. He looks forward to meeting like-minded people in our Livery Company.

Freeman Patrick Naegeli

Patrick and his wife Suzanne live in Upton Grey in Hampshire. Patrick has a BA (Hons) in Business Studies, a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and an MSc (candidate) in Mathematics. He is currently Group Strategy Director at QinetiQ Plc and previously held appointments at Babcock Land, The Boston Consulting Group, Deloitte Consulting and Defence Strategy & Solutions. Patrick is an extremely experienced aviator with around 8,000 hours as a private pilot. Additionally, he is a glider pilot, instructor and examiner and a CSS Senior Examiner – Sailplanes (high performance gliders).

Patrick is actively involved in the administration of UK and international sporting and recreational aviation, one example being that he is Chair of the European Aviation Safety Agency Working Group on the development of regulations EASA Sailplane Flight Crew Licencing. Patrick has been a private pilot for close on 40 years, flying light aircraft and gliders. For more than half of that time, he has held senior volunteering roles in a number of national and international aviation organisations. Patrick says his personal interest is in helping promote the role of aviation in society, protect its many important legacies, encourage participation, and encourage responsible development as part of the nation’s modern societal agenda. He looks forward to enjoying the opportunity of learning from and exchanging thoughts and ideas with other Livery members who share similar interests.

Freeman Michael Straughan OBE

Freeman Michael Straughan OBE

Michael lives with his wife Emma in Poole, Dorset. He has a BSc in Combined Engineering Studies and is currently Executive Consultant to the CEO of Aston Martin Lagonda. Michael has held various senior positions, including COO of Aston Martin Lagonda, COO of Sunseeker, Board Member Manufacturing of Bentley Motors Ltd and Operations Director at Jaguar Land Rover.

During this illustrious career, he has been involved in the launch of several luxury motor cars and securing products for manufacturing in several plants and thereby securing employment. Michael has also represented automotive organisations in discussions and lobbying government, as well as championing apprenticeships in traditional hand crafting skills with luxury marine and automotive manufacturers. He is proud to be involved in the manufacture of luxury products in automotive and marine sectors and says he is fortunate to have showcased the best of British craftsmanship and technology to many customers, government officials and royalty.

Michael would like to give something back to the industry, in the encouragement and support of young people embarking on a career in automotive and aerospace –aligned to the aims and objectives of the Coachmakers.

Liveryman Andrew Garner

Liveryman Andrew Garner

Andrew Garner and his wife Sharon live in Loughborough, Leicestershire. Andrew has chaired several private and public businesses and currently chairs Maxim Corporate Ltd, and Loughborough University Enterprise, where he sees his role as growing shareholder value. Among his charitable activities, Andrew is in his second term as Chair of the Shepshed Round Table, and supports Sharon in her Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) activities, in which she is also chair of Wenlo RDA and Carriage Driving. Andrew enjoys fly fishing, riding, antique guns, clocks, vintage cars, all shooting activities especially clay pigeon shooting. Andrew is keen to support the Livery’s objectives and meet and socialise with like-minded peers, which aligns perfectly with the Livery’s raison d’être.

Liveryman Mark Rogers

Liveryman Mark Rogers

Mark lives with his wife, Stephanie in Maidenhead, Berkshire. Mark achieved a BTEC Science followed by a BTEC Business Studies, BTEC National in Electrical Electronic Engineering, BTEC National Aerospace Engineering, and HNC in Electronics. He is an Incorporated Engineer, a Fellow of the Institute of Sales Management, Licenced in Aircraft Engineering by the CAA and has a Diploma in Sales and Marketing. Mark is currently Head of Development and Sales for one of the largest and leading aviation loss adjusters in the world. He has previously worked for various aviation related organisations including the RAF as an Aircraft Engineering Technician and also Flybe, British Midland Airways (BMI), and Honeywell Aerospace.

Amongst many other achievements, Mark supported RAF Search and Rescue (SAR) operations and multiple military campaigns in Europe and the Middle East including a three-year tour in Hong Kong. Mark is a member of the International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading (ISTAT) and is involved in numerous charitable activities including being a trained listening volunteer and mentor with the Samaritans. He also has a legion of interests including a Private Pilot’s Licence, and Level II in dinghy sailing from the RYA. During his 12 years in the RAF, Mark’s last tour was with Brize Norton’s 216 TriStar Squadron. Mark’s reason for joining the Livery is that he is passionate about supporting the armed services and promoting young talent into the aerospace sector.

Liveryman Emeritus Professor James Saker

Liveryman Emeritus Professor James Saker

James lives in Leicester with his wife Linda. James, perhaps better known in the motor industry as Jim, has an illustrious career in the industry, primarily with an aim to increase and recognise competence in the automotive sector through a number of initiatives. He attended three universities, Swansea, Manchester and Leicester and has a BSc, MSc, and PGCE.

Jim is currently Emeritus Professor at the School of Business & Economics at Loughborough University and is also President of the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) and is Chair of the Women’s British (Professional) Basketball League. He was responsible for the launch of the world’s first degrees in Retail Automotive Management with Ford Motor Company at Loughborough University. More recently, Jim led the IMI’s taskforce on diversity and inclusion with the report being published earlier this year.

Jim is a trustee of two charities and is on the board of two Leicester schools. He summarises his aims as trying to support under-represented groups in the motor industry, and growing women’s basketball in Great Britain. Jim is keen to support the charitable aims of the Livery and meet with like-minded people.

Liveryman Rowlie McBeath

Liveryman Rowlie McBeath

Rowlie lives in Sherborne, Dorset with his wife Rosemary. He retired in December 2017, after a long career in defensive systems at Westland Helicopters and its successors, culminating in being Chief Defensive Systems Engineer at Leonardo Helicopters from 1992 to 2017. Rowlie qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering and has a wonderful list of professional achievements, including UK certification of Apache AH-64D’s armament systems for the British army, and the experimental installation of the air to air Stinger missile system on the Lynx helicopter. In terms of other professional associations, he is a European Engineer, a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS).

Rowlie is Chair of the Southdown Trust – a charity which awards bursaries to students and he has other board and membership activities. He enjoys air shows and defence exhibitions and also has interests in French language and culture. Rowlie had the pleasure of serving as Master Gunmaker, so is well versed on Livery Company work and life. Although Rowlie was an armament system engineer, he sees himself more as an aeronautical engineer, and has a keen interest in all things that fly – a perfect fit for the Coachmakers.
