31.05.24 Renter Warden David Barrett
Civic appointments 2024
The closing date for formal nominations for two Shrieval candidates is 1st May and has now passed. There were only two nominations received and accepted by the City’s Electoral Officer.

Alderman Gregory Jones KC
The Court of Aldermen has declared its support for Alderman Gregory Jones KC (Farringdon Without) as the Aldermanic Shrieval candidate for 2024-25. Greg is proud to be the first ever serving silk to be prospective Sheriff of the City of London.

David Chalk
Also there is one non-Aldermanic candidate, David Chalk. David is a recent Past Master of the Drapers’ Company and operates a business providing at-home care for the elderly and infirm. Members can read more about David Chalk on his campaign website – https://www.davidchalk.co.uk.
Accordingly Liverymen will be asked to vote for Alderman Gregory Jones and David Chalk at Common Hall, Guildhall on mid-summer day 24th June. If you wish to attend, request a pass from the Clerk.
The election of the next Lord Mayor occurs later in the year at the Michaelmas quarter day; end of September. For the 2024-25 mayoral year the Court of Aldermen has declared that its preferred candidate is our very own Court Assistant Alderman Alastair King DL (Queenhithe). As a departure from tradition, the Court of Aldermen has also named preferred mayoral candidates for the following two years. For 2025-26 it’s Alderwoman Dame Susan Langley DBE (Aldgate) and for 2026-27 it will be Alderman Tim Hailes (Bassishaw).
