A challenging shoot at Teffont Magna

The Coachmakers’ game shooting day of the 2026/27 season took place at the Teffont Magna estate on 9th September. The day consisted of five drives shot by a team of eight guns. The team was made up of Coachmakers and friends comprising Helen Hoffman, Joe Baguley, Steve Baguley, Nick Brayshaw, Bob Dover, Mike Dearden, Christopher Tate and Alastair Boyes.

The night before the shoot the team met for a rather good steak, good wine and plenty of great conversation at The Lamb, Hindon. The day started with a safety meeting at the shoot lodge, then pegs were drawn and the team headed out for the first two drives of the day, after which elevenses were taken in the field. Another drive was followed by lunch and then two drives to finish the day.

Overall, it was a great day with fine weather. There were some excellent shots and some easy shots missed. The shooting comprised challenging but well-presented partridge driven across hedgerow, woodland and valleys.

With a busy game shooting season for many Coachmakers this year, the next Coachmakers’ shooting event will be held at Honesberie Shooting School, Warwickshire, on Saturday 3rd April. The form for the day shall be to meet for breakfast at 10am at the shooting school, with informal shooting of 100 clays or so, with a bit of banter and competition. Following shooting, lunch will be taken at the Red Lion in Hellidon.

The aim of the day is to finish around 2pm in the afternoon. All are welcome to join what should be an entertaining day of shooting, good company and a nice lunch.
