The Coachmakers’ Car Club is born

At the Court meeting prior to the Automotive Dinner on 20th March, the creation of the Coachmakers’ Car Club was approved.

So many of us have an interest in cars, classic and modern, motorsport and often our outings are car based. Last year we invited the Distillers’ Car Club to join us at the Hampton Court Concours which was a great success. It seemed timely to start our own car club to widen the participation of liverymen and their partners fulfilling a central objective in the aiming points for our 350th year. In addition, extending our relationship at this informal level in the future potentially with the other Livery clubs (such as the Distillers) will widen our social reach, be more inclusive and furthering our relationships with other liveries.

The Club will be managed by a small committee of three: a chairperson, a secretary, and an organiser to keep things simple.

  • The club will report on its activities to the Livery Committee;
  • A nominal fee of £10 per annum is required to become a member, with residual funds after organising expenses to an appropriate Coachmaker fund;
  • This Club is not just for classics but all those who love cars and/or motoring. Essentially a club for those who love driving;
  • It is proposed to plan events at least once a quarter;
  • Events may be:
    Visits to historic places within a short drive from London, north, south, east and west
    Motorsport events
    An annual tulip or treasure hunt
    Visits to car factories or small volume car manufacturers
    Including good food and wine
    Potentially combine events with other car clubs such as the Distillers and others in the future
  • First event proposed as a run to the British Motor Museum followed by late lunch at the “Lost Pug” pub nearby, in May (date tba) when the weather is better.

The objective is to keep things simple with a small committee who work hard to find great events. This is a drivers’ club rather than a classic car club, to bring greater appeal to our supporting partners. We will leverage our Livery connections and those with other liveries to make as many events as we can ‘VIP’.

The strapline of the Club is:

“If you just like the pleasure of driving the open road, visiting historic or cultural places, vineyards, distilleries, and fascinating car factories, whilst enjoying each other’s company, with good food and wine, then you will enjoy our car club.”
