30.01.26 Honorary Assistant David Barrett
The City and Livery movement explained
Deputy Editor of Coachlines, Freeman David Barzilay is a journalist by profession and runs a PR company advising clients. Every year he organises small foreign journalist dinners on behalf of an accountancy firm client. The dinners, held at the Aldermen’s Dining Room at Guildhall in the heart of the City, entertain London bureau chiefs from leading foreign publications and news outlets.
Last September he hosted dinners for Japan, Germany & US journalists. To enlighten guests on the history and importance of the City and its Livery Companies he asked Honorary Court Assistant David Barrett to present a short slide show after dinner, providing an understanding of the uniqueness of the City of London and its Liveries.
Arising from the US dinner, the Content Director of ‘The American’ magazine, designed for ex-pats in the UK, asked David to write an expanded article for his magazine, which was published in the January/February issue where “David Barrett explains all”. Possibly an exaggeration, but Coachmakers maybe interested to read the story from the Romans, via the Norman Conquest to the splendid establishment we have today.
