SAVE THE DATE – Inter-Livery Tennis Competition

The Feltmakers’ Inter-Livery Tennis Competition will be held on Monday 13th September 2021 at the Hurlingham Club at 11am.

The competition is open to teams of two mixed pairs from each Company. The competition is designed for Liverymen and their spouses/partners; one person in each pair should therefore, ideally, be a Liveryman. The competition will be run as an American tournament, with quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final. The Feltmakers’ Trophy will be awarded to the winners, and a knock-out Plate Competition for first round group losers.

The competition will be followed by dinner in the Hurlingham Club when the Master of the Feltmakers’ Company will present prizes to the winners and the runners-up. The evening usually ends shortly after 9.30pm.

We will share more details on this event once we have received them from the organisers.

Liverymen take up the croquet challenge

On Saturday 12th June I represented the Coachmakers, together with my croquet partner Deborah Chamberlain, in the Glovers’ annual tournament in an effort to recover the cup which we won in 2018, writes Liveryman Bob Wilson. As previously, the competition comprised five games of golf croquet, each game lasting 45 minutes or the first team to achieve seven hoops.

The morning went very well, winning 6-2 against the Butchers, 7-2 against the Horners and 6-3 against a joint team of Fruiterers and Pattenmakers. However, after an excellent lunch we couldn’t keep up the concentration and we lost 3-5 against the Leathersellers and the final game was a tie against another team from the Horners at 5 each.

The winner of the competition was the Leathersellers and they were gracious enough to tell me that we were their most challenging opponent! We ended up equal third out of 18 teams – an improvement on 2019 when we were equal fifth.

A very enjoyable day and we look forward to competing again next year.
