Coachlines - October 2025

“Scramble, Scramble, Scramble”
This was the cry in WWII at RAF Bicester when bombing raids were scrambled for raids over occupied Europe. This historic site has called it “the best-preserved bomber airfield from the period up to 1945,” and dates back to the Great War, to the very earliest days of the Royal Air Force.
Bicester Heritage now manages the site and holds three “Scramble” events a year in which car clubs, classic car restorers, collectors, and enthusiasts show off their beautiful machinery.
The event is always sold out many months in advance so we felt very honoured when the Coachmakers’ Car Club (CCC) was kindly invited by Bicester Heritage on 5th October to display its members’ cars in a prime spot right next to the historic watchtower. Our entry ticket also included free coffee and cake, which was especially welcome after some of us had driven many miles in open top cars on that chilly Sunday morning.
The CCC is open to any Coachmaker member for a moderate annual fee of £10 and is not just for those with classic cars but all those who love motoring, be it in a classic or modern machine, or even as a passenger!
On this occasion we had an eclectic collection of cars such as a lovely Bentley special brought by Liveryman Andrew Blatherwick, various Porsches, a beautiful Rolls-Royce and not forgetting the lovely Jaguar Mk2 of IPM Steve Fitz-Gerald.
The CCC is planning more events during this livery year, the details of which are shortly to be published on the events page of our website. The CCC is also looking at joining up with the car clubs of other livery companies to further our aims of fellowship and friendship. So, if you are interested, please contact Assistant Nick Lyford at epsom_lyfords@yahoo.co.uk and join up and enjoy the motoring fun.
