The Coachmakers is pleased to offer a generous collection of University, Engineering and Flying Scholarship awards which can be applied for online through the links below.
The awards are managed by the Aerospace Awards Sub-Committee (AAC) which is one of three specialist sub-committees of the Charity Committee (CC), the other two being the Automotive Bursary Committee and the Carriage Driving Awards Committee which also offer scholarship awards in their fields. The AAC comprises Livery members who are experienced in the aerospace industry, military, civil or private flying, all with an overarching interest in helping young people to realise the very best of their potential. These are the people who manage the selection and interviews, and you can see who the people are in the ‘committees’ link in the footer to this web page.
The Livery has a policy of inclusion and embraces all people irrespective of race, gender, disability, religion, medical or other need. It is about giving equal access and opportunities and not permitting any discrimination or intolerance. This policy affects all aspects of the AAC processes provided the applicants for the awards meet any professional or medical standards required for the duties or qualification to which the award is associated. Each award is subject to the standard terms and conditions which are not considered to be discriminatory in any way but are designed to ensure the potential applicants are within the target audience of the Livery’s wider policies.
All of the awards are described in the following linked pages. Applicants may apply for more than one award if they wish.
The Livery year runs from 1st September to 30th August and all scholarships will be awarded annually within this calendar. Normally a short list of applicants will be notified shortly after the award closing date and selection interviews will be held in person approximately one month after the closing date of the award. Applicants should be prepared to attend a selection interview in the London area. Awards will normally be paid out within two weeks of the interviews so that individuals may use the awards immediately to support their studies and career progression purposes.
The awards are open to young people who will be under the age of 35 on 31st August in the livery year in which the award is made.
The winners of the scholarships will also be invited to, and expected to attend, the Coachmakers’ Aerospace Industry Dinner which will normally be held during each November at one of the City of London Livery Halls. During this event, the winners will be presented with a Certificate of Achievement by a senior industry executive and in the presence of many other senior aerospace industry executives from the UK and European aerospace industries. The dinner is a black-tie event, the cost of which will be borne by the Coachmakers. However, any travel and accommodation expenses incurred must be borne by individual winner. Pictures of previous events may be viewed here.
Not only does this award offer opportunities and financial assistance in the short term, association with the Coachmakers is potentially long-term and offers exciting networking and mentoring opportunities into and beyond early careers. Our website gives more details.
All questions or queries should be addressed by email to the Aerospace Awards Committee Chairman, Steward Neil Sheath MRAeS.
Please read our standard terms and conditions, which can be viewed here.
