At the Common Hall election on Monday 29th September at Guildhall, Liverymen elected Alderman Alastair King DL as the Lord Mayor-elect.
As one of Alastair’s companies, the Coachmakers is close to the Lord Mayor-elect who is one of our Court Assistants, and we offer him hearty congratulations. The photograph above shows Alastair immediately after the election being greeted by new Sheriffs Alderman Greg Jones KC and Drapers’ Past Master David Chalk.
Lord Mayor-elect Alderman Alastair King will be the 696th Lord Mayor of London, he commented in his acceptance speech that he was honoured and delighted to be the 696th of anything! quite remarkable.
During his Mayoral year, Alderman King will champion his ‘Growth Unleashed’ theme, by promoting a revitalised, resilient, and risk-ready City. His theme will focus on challenging industry to maximise opportunities through responsible risk taking, driving the adoption of technologies, and celebrating the successes of the many diverse communities across the UK. ‘Growth Unleashed’ will look to drive growth and investment particularly in areas where the UK has a competitive advantage. As habitual early adopters of dynamic new technologies, the programme will seek to mobilise private capital to early-stage companies, productive sectors of the economy and promote pro-innovation regulation.
Alastair will be supported by his partner Lady Mayoress Florence, an active reservist in the British Army currently serving in Horse Guards with HQ London District delivering ceremonial events across Greater London. She will support retention and recruitment of reservists in London during Alastair’s time in office.
Did you also know Alastair is a keen amateur boxer? He is a man of many talents.
