London Remembers WW1

On 1st September the new Master and Pat, his wife, attended their first event – London Remembers WW1. The Reserve Forces and Cadets’ Association for Greater London held the commemorative Drumhead Service at the Royal Hospital Chelsea to commemorate the actions of the London divisions during the final hundred days’ offensive of the First World War.

The event began with the Chelsea Pensioners exercising their Freedom of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, accompanied by representatives of London’s Maritime Reserves; The Royal Yeomanry; The London Regiment; 600 Squadron RAuxAF and the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry. The route through Burton Court was lined by representatives from YOU London – Youth Organisations in Uniform.

After the service there was a celebration of international youth, the theme – ‘through the eyes of youth to the future’ allowed young people to showcase what they have learnt during the previous four years of First World War commemorations and how this will equip them for the future.
The Master reports that it was a very moving occasion held outside in beautiful weather.
