24.05.22 The Clerk

In memory: Liveryman Simon Diffey

As announced previously, Liveryman Simon Diffey, Consort to the Immediate Past Master Sarah Jane Adams-Diffey, lost his life in a road traffic accident on Saturday 14th May 2022.

The family have let it be known through the Coachmakers’ Honorary Chaplain that they have been much comforted by the many letters, cards and text messages of sympathy and support that they have received.

Due to the circumstances of the accident, it may be some time before a date for the funeral can be set but as soon as the details are known, members will be informed.

Simon joined the Coachmakers’ Company in February 2005 and was clothed in the Livery in July of that year. He was an extremely active member and a great supporter of Coachmaker events, particularly those related to the automotive sector. A regular and popular competitor in a variety of historic racing cars and historic racing series, he was well known to everyone in the industry but more widely it was his annual appearances at Goodwood events for which he was perhaps best known.

Simon was also the proprietor of Merry Printers of Luton, a company which for many years has provided the Coachmakers’ Company with its printed material in support of Livery Dinners, Banquets and other events. His willingness to help knew no bounds and his infectious enthusiasm was a welcome addition to any conversation.

A trawl of the internet will show numerous references to Simon Diffey and almost all of them will include a photo of Simon with a historic car of some sort in which he is smiling or laughing – such was his zest for life. He will be much missed.
