25.04.22 The Clerk

In Memory: Past Master Group Captain Gerry Bunn CBE

Past Master Gerry passed away on 9th April 2022. He had been cutting the lawns with no hint of anything untoward and it was sudden and unexpected but as his widow Patricia has said, just the way he would have wanted it.

PM Gerry joined the Coachmakers as a Liveryman in 1984 as his time in command of the RAF’s 10 Squadron was coming to an end. You will have read about his exploits with the Squadron in 1982 in the previous edition of Coachlines.

While still serving in the RAF, he became an active committee member on both the Membership and Livery Committees and in 1997 he was invited to take on the responsibilities of the Clerk. In 2002 he became a Court Assistant, handing over the role of Clerk to Lt Col Peter Henderson in 2009 when he was installed as the Junior Warden.

Gerry was elected and installed as the Master in 2012 and was a kind and generous mentor to the current Clerk who was appointed in November of that year. His “Upside Down Banquet” in 2013 celebrated the centenary of the first loop to be flown in a fixed wing aircraft.
As a Past Master Gerry continued to play an active role in the management of the Company and the business of the Court and his loss will be keenly felt.
