27.02.26 Assistant Graeme Hunt

In memory – Douglas Green 1933-2026

Douglas passed away recently and although he resigned from the Coachmakers in 2023 due to ill health, he was a regular supporter of the Company during the years he spent as a Liveryman.

Assistant Graeme Hunt has offered this short note on Douglas’s life:

Douglas, along with Master James Smillie, brought me into the Coachmakers in 1995. His business, Hadley Green Garage Ltd, supplied Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Jaguar, Daimler, Land Rover & Range Rover. He took over the business in 1957 when his father died early, when it was supplying Routes products. Douglas transformed it into a luxury garage in the 1960s, being accredited with the Rolls-Royce & Bentley franchises in 1965 when the Silver Shadow & T series were launched.

A keen aviator, with both fixed wing (two engined) and rotor blades propulsion he also had a captain’s licence and kept his boats in Poole harbour, he also came second in the UK water skiing championships.

A life well lived I’d say.

He is survived by his wife Dinah, son and daughter in-law Paul and Pauline, two grandsons and a great grandson (born two days before his death, so he got to see his picture).
