In late January next year we shall hold an exclusive ‘Out of this World’ event at the National Space Centre in Leicester.
This relatively unknown and yet hugely important museum and educational resource specialises in space science and astronomy, alongside a space research programme in partnership with the University of Leicester.
Held in the privately booked planetarium, our special guest and speaker will be space specialist Pat Norris. Pat started his career in space industry software on the Apollo missions, and also worked on the Hubble telescope. He has worked for CGI, Europe’s largest space software firm since 1980, is ex-chairman of trade association UKSpace and chairs the Space Group of the Royal Aeronautical Society. He is the author of Returning People to the Moon After Apollo: Will It Be Another Fifty Years? and will have any number of fascinating tales to tell.
The National Space Centre display includes one of only three known Soyuz spacecraft in the West. And to help move stalled conversations over lunch, the restaurant is situated beneath the two nozzles of the Blue Streak and Thor 17 rockets!
Other than Coachmakers, visitors to the Centre include Apollo programme astronaut Buzz Aldrin in June 2005, Doctor Who in November 2013, and the annual Star Wars weekend has been taking place on site since 2015.
