The Coachmakers’ Automotive Industry Event 2021, Military and Motorsport

11th March @ 6:00 pm8:00 pm

Free – £50

The Master, Wardens and members of the Court invite you to join them and celebrate our automotive industry and at the same time enjoy some Coachmaker fellowship via your computer on Zoom.

The Master is delighted to announce her three guest speakers for the evening.

Our first speaker will be Lieutenant Colonel Dominic Davey, Commanding Officer of The Royal Dragoon Guards, who will provide an update on the most recent activities of our affiliated regiment, how they have been working through the pandemic, and a hint of what the future might hold for them.

Charlie Martin

Our second speaker for the evening is Freeman Charlie Martin, who will deliver a presentation entitled ’24 secs to 24 hours, my adventure from hill climb to endurance racer’.

Charlie is a British racing driver who is on her way to becoming the first transgender driver to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. With a background competing in European Hillclimb, she is extremely focused & ambitious, often achieving the impossible purely through her own drive & determination to be one of the fastest women in Europe.

Midway through the event there will be a pause in the proceedings during which all guests will be allocated to separate breakout rooms to enable individual discussions before being recalled to the main meeting room for the second part of the evening’s entertainment.

Our principal guest speaker for the evening is Simon Taylor (pictured at the top of the page), motoring journalist, author, motorsport commentator and racer who will discuss how there is more to motorsport than Formula 1. Simon worked in F1 as a journalist, and commentator on radio and TV, for more than 20 years. But he has watched, written about and occasionally competed in many other levels of motorsport for over half a century.

He believes that all of it – from Le Mans and Goodwood to humble sprints and club rallies – has been damaged by F1’s success, and deserves to be better appreciated for its excitement, its accessibility, its characters and its true sense of sport.

Dress: black tie or equivalent with Coachmaker badges of office and decorations where applicable. Guests are also asked to have a suitable beverage available to join in the toasts towards the end of the event. The toasts will be drunk in the seated position to ensure that everyone remains within camera shot.
