1st prize and overall winners of the 2020 Coachmakers’ Art competition by Amber & Alex Cornforth
Further to the Coachmakers’ Christmas Card Art competition; after receiving a wonderful collection of eclectic & international entries this year, from as far afield as Dubai, it was a tight fought competition through a point marking system.
Much deliberation was taken by our learned judges: Hon. Goldsmith and international jewellery designers Leo and Ginnie de Vroomen, the famous sculptor and artist Gerry Judah, Assistant Giles Taylor, Honorary Assistant and Chairman of the Livery Committee Richard Robinson and the Master. They were delighted to announce that Alex and Amber Cornforth were chosen as our winners of the 1st prize in the under-13 section.
They then judged the overall winner from all the winners in each category and Alex and Amber’s penguin card received more points than anybody else and was therefore declared 1st prize overall winner. Double congratulations!
The judges were particularly pleased that it met the brief on all counts and that two siblings were able to work together without issue, which rather highlights this year’s lockdown challenge.
We loved the nod to the NHS on the coach roof; and to diversity within the Christmassy red-nosed penguin line up, and of course for the Coachmakers – a fine coach with possibly the longest harness we have ever seen, and from inside the colourful coach, Alex and Amber shouting out loud: “I love this coach!”. The multicoloured NHS snow which surely would make anybody better, just finished off the colour balance beautifully.
It is a happy card in times of uncertainty and will undoubtedly put a smile on people’s faces when they receive it through the door this Christmas. The proceeds from the sale of the Coachmakers’ Christmas card will go into our charitable fund. The Worshipful Company of Coachmakers and Coach Harness Makers’ charitable fund helps young people within our automotive and aerospace industries.
