The Coachmakers’ Christmas Carol Service

10th December 2020 @ 6:00 pm7:15 pm

  • This event has passed.
Free – £30.00

Your Master, Wardens and Coachmakers’ Honorary Chaplain, The Venerable Ray Pentland CB, invite you to join them, with fellow Liverymen, family and friends, from the comfort of your own home to our alternative Christmas Carol celebration.

The programme will be as follows:

  • 1800 – The Master will welcome everyone and introduce the event “live” on screen
  • 1805 – The main service will begin which will include all the traditional readings and carols we have come to know and love plus a performance from the famous Gospel Touch choir.
  • 1850 – Following the video, the Clerk will magically despatch everyone in smaller groups to breakout rooms where you will be able to share a self-provided mince pie and a glass of something warming over which everyone can enjoy a convivial seasonal chat.
  • 1905 – The Clerk will recall everyone back to the main meeting room and invite Liveryman Pearl to co-ordinate the Annual Christmas 100 Club Super Draw live on screen.
  • 1915 – The Master will conclude the event and wish everyone a Happy Christmas.

This event is free to attend.

The Gospel Touch choir

The Gospel Touch Gospel Singers touch lives, one song at a time. With thanks to Managing Director Mr Sam Adebanjo, who has very graciously allowed us to use one of the choir’s performances. The award-winning Gospel Touch Choir has graced the airways of BBC’s The One Show, BBC Sport Relief, ITV’s Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Take Away, and Channel 4’s Christmas with Jamie Oliver.

They have performed at St James’s Palace for HRH Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall; at an Olympics Closing Ceremony; at the BAFTAs with singer/songwriter Paloma Faith; on the BBC’s Songs of Praise; and with Stormzy for his historic Glastonbury Festival performance.

Constantly in demand, they perform all over the world.

Donations

In order to offset the loss of income to St James, Garlickhythe that the decision to hold a virtual service this year has incurred, the Coachmakers’ Charitable Trust has instead made a donation of £1,000 to the church which will be split between the musicians who would have supported the event  and the Church Roof Repair Appeal.

However, regular attendees of this event will know that it is also Coachmaker tradition to leave gifts under the Christmas tree in St James, Garlickhythe for disadvantaged children of the borough. This will not be possible this year so when you book your place please make a donation which will be passed to the co-ordinator of this initiative, the Salvation Army at Hoxton, to help provide a little seasonal joy to those children of London who are in need.
