Our spring golf match took place at the New Zealand Golf Club near Woking in April – a beautiful haven of golf – which felt like we were going back in time 100 years to the contest’s roots in the 1920s.

Our friends from the Leathersellers had 12 players and we as co-hosts had 20 players.

A change in format this year saw a return to historical foursomes – this year we played Greensomes golf, where each pair has a drive and then play alternate shots until the ball is in the hole. Scoring was stableford – hopefully next year we will return to bogey golf against the card – and the scores were very good, both in the morning and the afternoon.

Lunch was served in-between – three courses and always hearty is an understatement – we all waddled back onto the course, struggling to stop buttons from popping off! Surprisingly the scoring in the afternoon was also high, notwithstanding the roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, crumble and lashings of custard.

It was noted that Past Master Rob Croall attended for the 46th year consecutively. Well done Rob and looking forward to seeing you again in 2026.

Organising these events is never easy, as it is time consuming, both beforehand and on the day, so Assistant Graeme Hunt would like to express his thanks to Secretary Alex Wrighton.

For the main competition, the Duchess of Gloucester Cup, the results were as follows:

First place: Assistant Lyn Litchfield & Freeman William Hunt with 39 points

Second place: Liveryman & Golfing Secretary Alexander Wrighton & Assistant & Golf Captain Graeme Hunt with 37 points

Closest to the pin: Junior Warden Bill Dastur

For the afternoon round, the results were as follows:

First place: Freeman William Hunt & Assistant Graeme Hunt with 37 points
