An insight into the City Livery Club

Members may be aware that for the forthcoming Christmas Carol Service at St James Garlickhythe, the Clerk has organised a follow-on Christmas supper at the nearby Little Ship Club.

You may also be aware of The City Livery Club which is housed within and shares premises with the The Little Ship Club on the riverfront off Lower Thames Street in Bell Wharf Lane. The City Livery Club describes the venue as a ‘discreet and peaceful haven to meet like-minded individuals for fun and fellowship in a beautiful riverside clubhouse conveniently positioned for all those who visit, work, or live in The City.

The Clubhouse is popular with those livery members residing out of town at some distance, the lounge and bar is the perfect spot to spend time between City commitments, or to meet livery friends. The restaurant and bar are managed by caterer Bovingdons.

Our Honorary Court Assistant David Barrett has been appointed as Hon. Secretary of the City Livery Club, which is a private members’ club specifically created for all members of Livery Companies, companies without livery, Guilds, Ward Clubs, holders of the Freedom of the City and numerous City-based societies. David replaced Deputy Keith Bottomley, now Sheriff, effective at the Club’s AGM on 3rd November.

Our Christmas Carols event shared equally with the Worshipful Company of Educators is an excellent opportunity to visit the venue and see what it has on offer. The CLC membership fee structure is significantly lower than a typical private members club in the City or West End, and enjoys numerous reciprocal arrangements with London private members’ clubs; The Oriental, Farmers, National Liberal and Oxford & Cambridge to name but a few. There are also numerous reciprocal regional and overseas clubs too where free access is offered.
