Aerospace award winner does well, historically
Historic Aircraft Association President Sir Gerald Howarth presents Milan Stojsavljevic with the award at the Historic Aircraft Association Symposium at the RAF Museum
At the Historic Aircraft Association Symposium at the RAF Museum in September, awards were made to well-known historic aircraft display pilot Stuart Goldspink and to Britain’s newest historic aircraft pilot Milan Stojsavljevic. The awards were made by Historic Aircraft Association President Sir Gerald Howarth.
The Colin Dodds Memorial Trophy was awarded to Milan Stojsavljevic
Squadron Leader Colin Dodds was a member of the Historic Aircraft Association from its earliest formation and served for more than three decades and was keen to encourage future generations of pilots in the historic aviation world. Following Colin’s death in 2020 the Dodds family donated the silver goblet trophy to the HAA in his memory.
Award winner Milan Stojsavljevic originally worked for Classic Wings as an aircraft mechanic and handler, and was then selected for and awarded the Coachmakers’ Sir Geoffrey de Havilland Flying Scholarship. After starting his flying training in the Tiger Moth, Milan changed career and joined the Royal Air Force. He had to postpone his flying training because of his RAF initial and further training. Milan now serves as an Aircraft Avionics Technician. Based at RAF Brize Norton, 99 Sqn, working on the C17s.
The Sir Geoffrey de Havilland Flying Scholarship made the opportunity possible for Milan and he is one of very few modern pilots to train entirely on the Tiger Moth and now, through persistence and determination, is Britain’s newest historic aircraft pilot.
Milan is the first student to gain his PPL at Old Warden since the Cambridge Flying Group started operating out of its new base at the Shuttleworth Collection this year.
