A letter from the Editor – May 2025

Dear Coachmakers,

As spring gives way to the promise of summer, the Company has enjoyed a vibrant and varied calendar of activity, reflecting the best of our traditions, camaraderie, and charitable purpose.

Earlier this month, the Master had the honour of attending the VE Day service, representing the Coachmakers at a poignant and dignified commemoration of those who served and sacrificed. Meanwhile, our keen golfers proudly took to the fairways at Walton Heath Golf Club to participate in the Prince Arthur Cup, upholding our sporting spirit with customary enthusiasm.

A recent event for many was the Livery Committee’s beautifully organised visit to Osborne House on the Isle of Wight. This special occasion offered a fascinating glimpse into royal heritage and provided the perfect backdrop for fellowship among members.

On Tuesday 24th June, we have a unique opportunity to exercise our rights as Liverymen at the City of London’s Shrieval election, traditionally prescribed on Midsummer’s day. The responsibility of electing the Sheriffs has rested with Liverymen since 1475.

The absolute highlight of this livery year is our annual Charity Fundraising Banquet taking place on 9th June at Mansion House. Thanks to substantial sponsorship and the extraordinary efforts of many within our Company, our charitable funds have already received a very welcome boost—giving us a strong start as we strive to support engineering, young people, and those in need.

This year’s Banquet will also feature an online charity auction, offering an array of exciting and unique lots – many of which are not available to the general public. The auction will be accessible not just to those attending the Banquet in person, but also to all Livery members, wherever in the world you may be. Please do bid and contribute to the worthy causes we support. We look forward to welcoming many of you at the Banquet – and beyond.

With best wishes,

Your editor, Lyn
