Victory for Spectacle Makers at the Prince Arthur Cup

The Spectacle Makers were this year’s winners of the prestigious Prince Arthur Cup – the Inter-Livery golf tournament hosted and organised by the Coachmakers, which involved some 33 Livery teams playing both the New and Old courses in a foursomes format.

The tournament was once again played at Walton Heath, a former Ryder Cup venue and where just three days before the Prince Arthur Cup, final qualifying for the US Open was held. It meant that both courses were in perfect condition but the set-up was truly challenging for amateur players.

Despite that some fine performances were recorded, not least from the Coachmakers whose Team A consisting of Liverymen Martin Derrick, Assistant Lyn Litchfield, Assistant Graeme Hunt and Freeman William Hunt came 13th overall. Better still, the Coachmakers’ B pair of Freeman Rupert Hunt and Immediate Past Master Steve Fitz-Gerald recorded the best individual score on the New Course in the afternoon round.

IPM Steve Fitz-Gerald presented the prizes and thanked all the staff at Walton Heath and most particularly Liveryman James Wormell and his team for organising the day in exemplary fashion.

Next year will be the 100th playing of the Prince Arthur Cup and plans are already under way to ensure a truly memorable centenary event.
