79th Service of the United Guilds of the City of London
On a bright, blustery day in the City of London, Masters, Clerks and Liverymen gathered on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral to gain entrance to the 79th Service of the United Guilds of the City of London. At the service, which took place on Friday 23rd March, representatives from the livery companies presented a colourful and magnificent sight as the Choir, the Succentor, Clergy of the City Deanery and the College of Canons proceeded to their places in the Quire, while the Chapter and Bishop of London escorted the Lord Mayor of London to his stall in the quire.
The Worshipful Company of Coachmakers and Coach Harness Makers was represented by the Master, the Clerk, the Senior Warden, the Renter Warden, the Junior Warden, PM Richard Charlesworth and Hon. Assistant Lesley Upham.
The service was first introduced in March 1943 to help lift the spirits of the City following the Blitz during the Second World War.
After the service there was a convivial lunch at Tallow Chandlers.
