The Old Bailey – for real

The Sheriff invited a small group of Masters to join him for lunch with the working judges of the Old Bailey. It was a special day because one of the judges had been invited to join the High Court.

The lunch was necessarily very simple which contrasted very much with the conversation. We really are fortunate to have such conscientious, hard-working judges. The live Court, to which I was invited, was in the midst of a drug-gang related murder case. We were made very welcome in the Court and given access to the case material.

The conversation at the close of the court with the prosecuting barrister and the policeman in charge of the case was illuminating and they both demonstrated extreme patience; even with the accused.
