The Lockheed Martin University Scholarship Awards

Application for the Coachmakers’ Lockheed Martin Scholarship Award

The Coachmakers’ Lockheed Martin Scholarship Awards were created in 2024 by kind sponsorship of the Coachmakers’ Aerospace Awards by Lockheed Martin UK. There are currently awards, normally of up to £5,000 each, to support aeronautical engineering university students at any level of university study (Bachelors, Masters or PhD).

The award is for those who will be under the age of 35, with nationality and residency in accordance with the Coachmakers’ standard terms and conditions, wishing to complete their degree studies in aeronautical engineering subjects, and be recommended by the university as having the academic ability to do so. The applicant should describe the purpose for which they would like the award, make a case for the granting of the award and state the sum requested, noting that the Coachmakers likes to support constructive project work which is likely to enhance the degree studies.

Those selected for the short list will be expected to make their case for the grant of the award, including how the award would be spent. No presentation or submissions are required but the applicant may submit a short presentation to accompany their application if they wish to do so, other than the university recommendation, accompanied by a short personal statement which then forms the basis of an interview process.

The winner of the scholarship will also be invited to, and expected to attend, the Coachmakers’ Aerospace Industry Dinner held annually in November at a prestigious location in London. At this event the winner will be presented with a Certificate of Achievement in the presence of several senior executives from Lockheed Martin and other companies from the UK and European aerospace industries. The dinner is a black-tie event, the cost of which will be borne by the Coachmakers. However, any travel and accommodation expenses incurred must be borne by individual winner.

Not only does this award offer opportunities and financial assistance in the short term, association with the Coachmakers is potentially long-term and offers exciting networking and mentoring opportunities. Our website gives more information on how industry and military affiliations have evolved from our historic roots in the coachmaking and coach harness making trades.

Applications for this award are open and close at midnight on 31st January 2025. Applicants should be available to attend a selection interview in person, video interviews are not normally carried out, in London on 26th February 2025.
