03.12.20 Liveryman Dr Shawn Manning

Liverymen enlightened by Dame Fiona Woolf

On 10th November we had the honour of being joined on Zoom by Dame Fiona Woolf for a fascinating and broad ranging conversation covering her professional, City and Livery Company careers.

The call was relatively well attended by Livery members and their guests, although still small enough to lend an intimate feel to the event, during which Dame Fiona both educated and entertained us whilst describing her career as well-respected international lawyer (she has served as President of the Law Society), Lord Mayor of the City of London (only the second female Lord Mayor in 811 years) and Master of the Solicitor, Plumbers and Builders Merchants Livery Companies.

Dame Fiona regaled us with lively, fascinating, and sometimes comic stories covering wide, but interconnected, episodes, including the pleasant surprises one encounters whilst travelling overseas, the challenges of travelling comfortably in the Lord Mayor’s Coach and the role of the modern Livery Company in the City of London. Overall a hugely enjoyable conversation with an extremely talented, interesting and engaging lady.
