Livery visit to France – 23rd-26th May 2022
We have arranged a visit to France, to the Chateau de Vaux le Vicomte, a 17th century masterpiece designed by Louis le Vau for Nicholas Fouquet, Louis XIV’s Superintendent de Finances. Fouquet had ambitions to become First Minister but Jean-Baptiste Colbert arranged for the King to be told that the Chateau had been built using money embezzled from the state. Within a month of the grand opening Fouquet was arrested and spent the rest of his life in prison. The Chateau has one of the best collections of carriages in France.
