The pandemic has substantially changed our working patterns and behaviours, perhaps for good, impacting heavily on the restaurants, bars and offices upon which the City of London thrives. Coupled with the uncertainty over Brexit, the City faces a combined challenge of historic importance.
Sheriff Christopher Hayward CC will be discussing these challenges and the City’s response to them. With particular expertise in planning and transport, Christopher’s views on the impact of the pandemic and Brexit on the City’s business, workplaces, character and environment will be most insightful and illuminating.
To the outsider the structure of the Corporation looks complex. We are delighted therefore that Christopher, a highly experienced Common Councilman, and one of the current Sheriffs, has agreed to also provide us with an overview of these roles and shine some light on how the City is governed.
The City of London Corporation is the local authority for the City of London – the Square Mile. The City has been vitally important to the nation over many centuries – a very significant portion of all tax revenues are generated there and almost 500,000 people are employed in mostly high quality jobs within its environs. The Lord Mayor, Sheriffs and Aldermen all play key roles in the governance of the City.
The evening will be hosted via Zoom. There are just 20 tickets available for the evening.
