Coachmakers’ De Havilland Scholarship winner flies solo
Friday 10th October 2025 was a special day to remember for Harry Atkin, who flew solo for the first time in a DH82a Tiger Moth at the Cambridge Flying Group.
Harry who is an aerospace CAD design engineer who specialises in reverse engineering aircraft parts for classic, vintage and modern commercial aircraft, was the 2024 recipient of the Coachmakers’ Sir Geoffrey de Havilland Flying Scholarship and has put the award to very good use. We are thrilled to see his progress and can’t wait to celebrate the next milestone on his journey to earning his Private Pilot’s Licence.
Harry says:“Today I reached a personal milestone, a childhood dream, solo in a Tiger Moth. An unforgettable experience, one that I will remember and cherish forever. I think I will be smiling for many days to come! There’s nothing quite like it, and I’m more motivated than ever to continue my training.”
