Coachmakers appoints new Honorary Chaplin
We welcome Father Tim Handley who is taking over the reins as the company’s Honorary Chaplin from the Venerable Ray Pentland. Fr Tim was born in Blackpool in 1963. His father was a hotel manager, so the family moved from seaside location to seaside location, eventually moving inland to Reading when he was 10.
He read Law at university before leaving to work as a reporter on his local newspaper, then moving on to the BBC. Beginning in local radio, before changing to television news. He left the BBC in 1994 to undertake his theological studies in Oxford but after serving in his title parish moved back to the BBC and worked both as a producer/editor and as a non-stipendiary priest in Twickenham, Canterbury, and Shepherd’s Bush.
In 2017 he moved back into full-time ministry at St James Garlickhythe. Father Tim has a “soft spot” for the Coachmakers, which was the first Livery Company to embrace him and meet with him on his appointment in 2017. He is thrilled and honoured to be Honorary Chaplain.
His interests are theology, history, cooking, and his black labrador, Louie. Father Tim is currently Honorary Chaplain to the Painter-Stainers, the Curriers, the Dyers (yet to be ratified) and the Little Ship Club.
