22.02.19 The Clerk

Clerk’s Notes – Jan/Feb 2019

With half the Livery Year already done, the Automotive Industry Dinner 2019 will take place on Tuesday 26th March at Drapers’ Hall. Demand for places at this event is always strong so please do not delay, book your places here now.

Soon afterwards is the City’s United Guilds’ Service at St Paul’s Cathedral on Thursday 28th March. This is an annual service which commenced in 1943 as a means of re-affirming the fellowship of the livery companies following the darkest days of World War II. It is an incredible sight to see the Masters and Wardens of all 110 livery companies on parade in their gowns and badges for the service along with many of their Liverymen and Freemen. The Coachmakers is allocated 21 tickets to attend (which is free of charge) after which we join members of the Tallow Chandlers’ Company for lunch in Tallow Chandlers’ Hall at a cost of £60 pp (inc. vat). If you wish to join the Master please contact the Clerk on clerk@coachmakers.co.uk.

Looking further ahead, the annual Banquet will take place at Guildhall on 5th June. Another exciting event is planned and one not to be missed. More details are being published elsewhere in this edition and I will say more about it the next time I write.

In between times, the Livery Committee-arranged programme of events continues with a number of interesting visits planned throughout the summer; keep an eye on your inbox for details.

The initial planning has started for a particularly interesting event in mid-July 2020; for now follow this link.

In the City

The next Grant of Arms workshop is on 11th March at IT Hall between 6pm and 9pm. The event is open to Freemen, Liverymen and their guests. More details can be found here and if you wish to enrol online go to: heraldry2019.eventbrite.co.uk

The 6th Annual Reflections of The Lord Mayor, will take place on Monday 13th May 2019 at Vintners’ Hall. This year Sir Andrew Parmley will be sharing reflections of his time as the 689th Lord Mayor of London. The theme of Sir Andrew’s Reflections is – Just Say YES! You will find more details, including booking details, at the website:

The Inter Livery Clay Pigeon Shoot will be held on Wednesday 16th May at the prestigious Holland and Holland shooting grounds in North London, and is always an excellent day out. It starts with a good breakfast and concludes with a good lunch, with a wide range of entertaining targets to test your shooting skills in between. It is hoped that anyone who shoots can join their fellow Liverymen and shoot for one of the Coachmakers’ teams on that date. For more details contact Liveryman Alastair Boyes at alastair_boyes@hotmail.co.uk

If you want to read some thoughts posted by Catherine McGuinness, Chair of the City Corporation’s Policy and Resources Committee, The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor Peter Estlin, follow this link.

The election of the Sheriffs for the ensuing year will be held on 24th June, details for which will appear in the next edition of Coachlines. For now, letters of support for the two candidates vying for the position of non-Aldermanic Sheriff for 2019/20 are at this link.

And to lighten the load, they offer you the opportunity to join them at the Sheriffs’ Ball on Friday 20th September 2019 at the Guildhall, in aid of The Lord Mayor’s Appeal. Follow this link for full details and booking information.

General administration

In conclusion for this edition, my thanks go to all those Coachmakers who took the time to update their website account details prior to the production of this year’s hard copy Directory.

For those who are yet to review their entries, I’d be grateful if you would do so as soon as possible, particularly your contact details. As you will know, in this modern era of digital communication our preferred method of contact is electronic but we can’t send you hard copies of the annual Directory and the Events Booklet without a current address.

Your help in this matter would be much appreciated and if you have any problems please contact the Clerk at clerk@coachmakers.co.uk .
