All the fun of the Lord Mayor’s Show

Thirty three Coachmakers, and their families and friends joined the Master and Clerk for this year’s Lord Mayor’s Show, where we were treated to sunshine and blue skies. Our entry in the procession, which leads from Bank to Aldwych, via St Paul’s and back along Embankment, this year included The Master’s own yellow Lonsdale Park Drag. Our half way picnic was judged the best yet with various other show attendees coming over for a pie and a glass of fizz.

There was a strong turnout of cheering and waving spectators to welcome the 695th Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Michael Mainelli.

This year’s Lord Mayor’s Show was heavily focused on the Livery Companies. The BBC coverage again drew on the expertise of Brigadier Greville Bibby CBE, the Grocers’ Company Clerk, who provided much detail commentary on Livery participation as well as the military. It’s available on BBC iPlayer here.

There were two large groups of Livery Companies in shared tarmac spaces; the Modern Livery Companies and for the second year now The Senior Companies consisting of more than 30 Company members sporting placards, trade or craft dress and other gimmicks. The World Traders, the new Lord Mayor’s mother company, laid on a huge float, there were also the traditional attendees with impressive floats including the Paviors’ Steam Roller.
