On the Monday prior to Remembrance weekend the Masters and Clerks of the City Livery Companies assemble at 10.45 am in the Garden at the east end of St Paul’s Cathedral for an open air Remembrance Service. The Service which follows the format of nation-wide Remembrance Services, starts at 11.00 am and finishes at 11.45 hrs. It involves the Masters of all Livery Companies planting a small wooden cross of remembrance in the garden.
The Service is attended by the Lord Mayor, St Paul’s Clergy, some VIPs and Royal British Legion personnel. Liverymen are clearly welcome to attend and there is plenty of room. Dress is business suits with an overcoat, raincoat, umbrella and poppy. It is wise to avoid bringing briefcases.
The ceremony is a simple, well organised event, with an informally formal atmosphere. There are no formal post event luncheon arrangements.
