THE ANNUAL INTER-LIVERY CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING COMPETITION

The Annual Inter-Livery Clay Pigeon Shooting Competition, of which the Coachmakers were founder competitors, is an annual event held at the world famous shooting grounds of Holland and Holland, Northwood, Middlesex (which is half an hour from Central London via A40 / A4180 or 50 minutes by Underground).

All Liverymen and Freemen of the company are eligible to enter the competition which is for one or more teams of 4 guns known as a Livery team. Non Liverymen may be included in a team but are restricted to 2 per team known as a non-Livery team. The competition attracts usually some 50 teams from 45 Livery companies.

The shooting format may vary each year, but essentially some 80 clays are fired from over 10 varying stands with the ever popular and exciting ‘flush’ to follow. Again, allowing for the variable standards of shooting cash prizes may be awarded to some FULL Livery teams for them to donate to the charities of their choosing.

Prizes may be awarded for the highest scoring lady competitor of the day and for the highest scoring Liveryman. Prizes are also awarded to the best side-by-side team, highest Livery team ‘flush’ and the highest non (full) Livery team.

The practice stand is usually open all day from 9 am and members of the City Livery Motoring section may bring along a selection of vintage and classic cars.

The cost of the event is approximately £115 per competing gun inclusive of insurance, cartridges, clays and an excellent buffet lunch including spit roasted pork, morning coffee and croissants. All teams will be seated to a table plan and non-shooting wives, well-wishers and guests are normally charged £45 for the day.

This Inter Livery Competition, which is managed by the Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners is widely considered to be one of the most enjoyable days in every Livery calendar. The objective is to raise monies for various charities and to have fun so there is no requirement to be an excellent shot; participation is the most critical issue. If you are interested in being involved or you need further guidance or reassurance please contact Liveryman Keith Taylor, who Captains the Coachmakers Team. Specific details and a booking form for this most interesting event will be circulated to the Livery toward the end of March each year.
